Aesthetics
Does your skin appear dull, pigmented, dry or less plump and vibrant than it should be? Skin boosters deliver beneficial nutrients to the layers of the skin that creams and serums cannot reach, allowing for effective treatment with visible results within a week.
These minimally invasive ‘tweakments’ are the new gold standard for treating and preventing skin ageing, with benefits including:
If you want to improve the appearance and texture of your skin with rapid results and little downtime, skin boosters are the ideal addition to your holistic skincare routine.
“Skin boosters are applied to a specific layer of the skin that is often bypassed by other aesthetic treatments. At this level, skin boosters can be administered to address a range of issues, from dark circles and uneven skin tone, to fine lines and wrinkles. We can be very exact in the condition and area we wish to target, meaning this treatment is well suited to those with specific skincare concerns.”
Dr Harpal Bains
Skin boosters are a treatment designed to improve skin quality by increasing your body’s production of collagen and elastin. The main ingredient used in skin boosters is hyaluronic acid (HA), a well-researched, naturally occurring substance that attracts and retains water, helping to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin. HA has gained popularity in recent years as an effective ingredient in topical skincare products; however, when injected, its absorption and efficacy are dramatically increased.
At Harpal Clinic, we use Sunekos and Profhilo, two skin boosters with high concentrations of HA. Profhilo contains pure HA, and Sunekos contains a patented formula of HA and amino acids. Your consultant will advise you on the best skin booster for your needs at your consultation.
Skin boosters are a type of mesotherapy, which means that they contain skin enhancing nutrients delivered to the mesoderm, or the ‘middle layer’ of the skin, where topical skincare products cannot reach.
These treatments are designed to stimulate fibroblasts (the principal active cell of connective tissue) to stimulate collagen and elastin production – two products that enable the skin to appear plump and refreshed. An overwhelming benefit of this process is the long lasting effect of the treatment – as your skin has been stimulated to produce collagen and elastin, it will continue to do so well after the skin boosters have been administered.
Downtime is minimal following treatment with skin boosters. When undergoing any treatment involving needles and the sensitive skin around the face and under eyes, there may be some bruising present after treatment. This should fade after a few days.
So what’s the difference between skin boosters and fillers? Aren’t they the same thing?
There is a lot of confusion about this, after all, both use types of HA. They both increase hydration in the skin, enabling a plumper, glowing appearance.
But the type of HA used differs depending on intended use. We use one type of HA with strong crosslinks (which makes it thick and ideal for adding volume) for fillers. A different type of HA is used for skin boosters – this is much less viscous which is better for the purpose of diffusing into the layers of the skin. It does not create volume like traditional fillers and the HA is also used as a ‘carrier’ for other nutrients to target this area of your skin.
Prior to treatment, you will receive a consultation so that we can assess the condition of your skin and understand your skincare goals. We will address any concerns and questions you may have before proceeding, including the results you can expect as well as aftercare advice, so that you feel confident and comfortable throughout the treatment.
At Harpal Clinic, our approach to wellbeing extends across our aesthetics services. We take into account all factors that influence your skin health when advising you on the best course of action to ensure that you get the best results.
Whilst we are happy to see you as a one-off, we prefer to work with you on an ongoing, collaborative basis. Tell us about your skin concerns, your goals and your beauty budget, and we will recommend the right combination of treatments for you as an individual – for a longer term solution to skincare and skin ageing.
Who can benefit from skin boosters?
Skin boosters are suited to people who are looking for a long-term solution to better quality skin and understand that care today means better skin tomorrow. They may be suitable for anyone looking to achieve a natural, youthful glow to their skin. Frequently, those who opt for skin boosters want to reduce the appearance of dark circles, dull and dehydrated skin, wrinkles and fine lines.
Are skin boosters painful?
Skin boosters are applied using a fine needle, therefore some discomfort may be experienced. However, we do apply an anaesthetic cream before treatment.
How long does the treatment last?
Typically, your appointment will take between 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
What happens during treatment?
You will receive a consultation to discuss your skincare goals and the treatment itself. Then, if you are a suitable candidate, we will apply an anaesthetic cream. Once the areas have become numb, the skin boosters will be applied via a series of very small injections. This may feel uncomfortable. The average appointment lasts between 30 to 45 mins, depending on the size of the treatment area. We will then recommend a post-recovery product for you to use at home.
Can I go back to work after?
The treatment can cause some light bruising, which will fade after a few days. For this reason, some patients choose to take time off work to allow their skin to recover in the privacy of their own home. However, this is personal preference.
What is skin booster aftercare like?
We provide a post-recovery cream following the procedure. We also recommend avoiding exercise, saunas and steam rooms, consuming alcohol, plane travel and strong skincare ingredients such as AHAs and retinol in the first 48 hours after treatment. SPF is advised for all needle based treatments.
When will I see results?
You can begin to see results as early as the end of the first week following treatment. The results of skin boosters are cumulative, so the results will continue to improve in time.
How long do skin boosters last?
The results of skin boosters usually last around nine to 12 months, though this may vary from person to person. The effect of skin boosters is an increase in your own body’s production of collagen and elastin – a result that you get to keep!
